List of Inscriptions on Tombs or Monuments in H.E.H the Nizam Dominions
The book “List of Inscriptions on tombs or Monuments in H.E.H Nizam Dominion” authored by O.S. Crofton discusses about the historical Epigraphic Inscriptions found on the Islamic and mostly Christian monuments like Churches and Cemeteries in Hyderabad during Asaf Jahi era. The Hyderabad State had a long contact with European travellers and merchants and with the Dutch, French and English East India Companies. Numerous monuments were surveyed by the Indian Historical Records Commission under the support and guidance of the Right Hon’ble Sir Akbar Hydari, then President of H.EH. The Nizam’s Executive Council in 1940 by the Hyderabad Contingent like St. George’s Cemetery and Church in Chaderghat, Jahanuma Chapel, Cemetery and Fonte Family Garden, Nawab Salar Jung’s Garden and a Protestant Cemetery in Mir Jumla Talao and Narayanguda. Several other structures studied are Isolated Graves in Alexandra Road, Bowenpalli and Mettuguda, War Memorial and St. John’s Church in Secunderabad, Bibi Makbara Cemetery and Barapala Gate in Aurangabad, unknown graves and cemetery in Bidar and Gulbarga. And many more monuments like these in Karimnagar, Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda, Nanded, Nizamabad, Osmanabad, Raichur and Warangal.
