Qutub Shahi tombs

Qutb Shahi Tombs in all their glory are located in Shaikpet village and mandal, Hyderabad district. The Qutb Shahi Tombs belonging to Tombs of Qutb Shahi Kings and their Queens, family members and other very important personages like Hakeems (Royal Physicians).

On the whole,the complex is composed of a total of 23 mosques, 40 mausoleums, six ‘baolis’ (step-wells), a ‘hamam’ (for mortuary bath), pavilions and garden structures. The monuments in this complex are a blend of Persian, Pathan and Hindu architectural styles built with local granite and traditional materials.

The tombs are popular for their rich heritage, historical and architectural grandeur.Presently, the Government of Telangana is collaborating with the Agha Khan Trust for Culture which has undertaken the responsibility of the restoration project. This includes restoration of 72 monuments that would be completed in a period of 10 years and Rs.100 crore has been earmarked for the project. The Idgah has been restored to its past glory ,while the work on other monuments too, is going on at brisk pace. Craftsmen from Rajasthan, specializing in lime plaster are replacing the cement with lime plaster. After 400 years, the Idgah has got a fresh look, due to the restoration efforts.
